This course goes over the manufacturing process of concrete masonry units and what ingredients are used. Topics covered include: (1)In house PSI testing, and the performance variations of different weight classifications; (2)Thermal mass, and how it relates to the energy performance of Concrete Masonry Walls, in all climate zones; (3)The changes in LEED v4, and how they relate to Concrete Masonry Wall Systems. One of the major changes in LEED v4 is a new focus on transparency. The course will discuss how Environmental Product Declarations can be used as a tool to make informed decision about CMU choices, and their environmental impacts.

This course combines a presentation regarding how to meet Energy Code using next generation insulated concrete masonry walls with three learning stations where participants can view and build three types of demonstration wall panels illustrating the concepts covered in the presentation. The course discusses the latest developments in how to comply with Energy Code using innovative masonry designs and detailing, and allows participants to learn how such designs are built in the field. The presentation and hands on portions of the program are each 45 minutes in length.
